Primary School Gymnastics
for Reception and Key Stage
1
A teaching manual
by Val Sabin 2000
Progressively structured lesson plans of proven
high quality are part of this fully comprehensive and user-friendly
teaching manual for the non-specialist teacher which more than
satisfies the requirements of the National Curriculum.
The teaching guide gives practical and definite guidance on suitable
and interesting material, expected outcomes, lesson structure,
and the handling, construction and organisation of apparatus.
There are assessment sheets for reception and Key Stage 1. Each
themed unit of work has a description, learning objectives, unit
framework, expected learning outcomes and six detailed lesson
plans. There are four units of work for each year group giving
72 lesson plans for Key Stage 1.
Together, the lesson plans form a complete, progressive and developmental
programme of work for the whole school. There is a very comprehensive
and well illustrated section on the break-down and teaching of
individual gymnastic skills, including common faults and their
remedies and a wealth of ideas for moving into and from different
skills in creative ways.
Also included are 26 original skill development cards to aid differentiation
in large group situations and there is an integration grid for
those schools using the "Top Gymnastics" resources.
