Sports Leadership toolkit

This Sports Leadership toolkit has been developed with the purpose of supporting teachers who deliver the Sports Leadership Level 1 award course. The toolkit is a new resource that provides teachers with advice on how to organise and structure the leadership course, progressive lesson plans and worksheets to develop pupils' leadership competence and an assessment framework that can be used to assess and record pupil performance.
It also provides practical examples of primary school liaison, unique ways of developing both pupils' leadership competence and experience, innovative use of young leader to promote pupil learning through the curriculum, through extra curricular and also gives clear opportunities for creating club links. In addition it also enhances the professional development of the teacher delivering the Sports Leadership Level 1 Award course.
The resource develops the provision of this leadership course and dramatically improves the learning experience of the pupils. The resource pack can have a huge impact on a Physical Education departments' curriculum, helping to achieve many of the strands of the Physical Education, School Sport and Clubs Links (PESSCL) strategy that was launched by the government in October 2002.
The Sports Leadership Toolkit is divided into four colour sections:
Section One: Setting up the course
Section Two: Module A
- Twenty x 1 hour lesson plans that fulfil the following 6 units:
- Unit 1 - Planning, preparing and assisting a simple sporting activity.
- Unit 2 - Basic communication skills for leading a sporting activity.
- Unit 3 - Principles and practice in delivering a basic health and fitness session
- Unit 4 - Understanding fair play in sport
- Unit 5 - Understanding the role of the sports official.
- Unit 6 - Understanding the scope of local sport and recreation activities
Section Three: Module B
Section Four: All lesson handouts and data CD
Each section has been solely written for the teacher responsible and tackles the key questions regarding the delivery of the Sports Leaders Level 1 Award course. The three sections strategically cover important periods throughout the course. The resource pack has been designed so that it can be easily adapted to ensure it takes account of the different facilities and equipment available, ability of pupils following the course, aims of the Physical Educations department involved.
The Sports Leadership toolkit has been designed so that the teacher delivering the course can take out the relevant lesson plan from the folder and refer to it as they are teaching. There are also resources such as application and assessment forms, certificates and recording frameworks that can be reproduced by t he teacher delivering the course.
